Idioms: a hot potato!!

Idioms are words, phrases, or expressions that cannot be taken literally. In other words, when used in everyday language, they have a meaning other than the basic one you would find in the dictionary. Every language has its own idioms. Learning them makes understanding and using a language a lot easier and more fun!

For example, “break a leg” is a common idiom.

Literal meaning: I command you to break a bone in your leg and you should probably go to the doctor afterwards to get it fixed.
Idiomatic meaning: Do your best and do well. Often, actors tell each other to “break a leg” before they go out on stage to perform.

Here it goes three idiomatic phrases connected with vegetables.

1. It's a hot potato
2. A carrot and a stick
3. Like two peas in a pod

So, have you ever had to deal with a hot potato? Do you know people who are like two peas in a pod? Can you write a sentence using an idiom, showing the idiomatic meaning?

A memorable place

Last summer I fulfilled one of my dreams: I flew to Canada. It is a huge country, so I just visited British Columbia, Alberta and the Rockies. I learnt a lot about the first inhabitants of Canada (the native Indian people) and their handcrafts: the totems, which are usually an animal or other naturalistic figure that spiritually represents a group of related people such as a clan. I saw many of them in Vancouver.

I drove along the Rockies which let me come across some wild animals in different Canadian wildlife parks. I was lucky enough to find a Black Bear while I was driving. Although it is not allowed, I stopped my car and took some snaps of the bear. It was dangerous because it was free and there was no fence. But, it was amazing.
On my trip I could admire the forests, the wildlife and the lakes whose water is very special. Because of the diposit of the snow, the colour of the lakes in the Rockies is turquoise.
This is the Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver. It stretches 450 feet (137m) across and 230 feet (70m) above Capilano River. I have never walked on a wodden bridge so long. What a thrilling experience!!!. Can you find me?

My description

My description
I was born in Girona 27 years ago. I spent my childhood and my teenager years in Girona, but when I got 18, I moved to Barcelona University, where I studied an English degree. After four years, I moved to Groningen (Holland), where I studied for one year.
Physically I'm rather shortish and slim. I've got a sun-tanned oval face with two big brown eyes. I have got neither scares nor freckles, but since last year I've found some wrinkles besides my eyes. I've got shoulder-lenght brown hair. I usually wear casual clothes such as jeans, T-shirts and trainers. I'm not very fond of skirts or high-heeled shoes. I'm a bit sportish.
My friends describe me as a really stubborn and hardworking woman who always fight to achieve her goals. Apart from that, I consider myself friendly and sociable since I've got friends from everywhere -Greece, Italy, Belgium and even Indonesia.
In my free time I try to fulfil my two passions: reading and horse-riding. I love reading novels and riding my two mares -Ska and Tiffany.

My hobbies

Unluckily I don't have much free time. However, I try to find time to do my two favourite hobbies: reading and horse-riding.
I enjoy reading any kind of book in any language -Catalan, Spanish, English or German. Two weeks ago I finished the book "L'Esglèsia del Mar". I strongly recommend that book, as the language is plain and easu and one can learn a lot about Catalan history, how the Calan and Jews live in Middle Ages, their traditions and so on. Now I've just started "The Pillars of the Earth", but this time it will take me longer to finish the book. It has 1274 pages!
My other hobby is horse-riding. At my grandfather's place we have got two horses: Ska and Tiffany. Both are female. Ska is grey with tiny white spots and a black-white tail. Her eyes aren't both the same colour; the one on the right is blue and the one on the left is brown. Tiffany is brightly brown with coal-black tail and horsehair.
I like riding around Canet d'Adri and Palol de Revardit and in some occasion I've even ridden to Banyoles.
I'm sure that you're wondering if I've ever fallen of the horse. The answer is Yes. I've already fallen off twice. Luckily I didn't break any bones.
So, what are your hobbies?
